OCD Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OCD Obsessive Compulsive DisorderWhile it is normal for many to double-check if they locked the door or turned off the stove, for some it becomes a complex and difficult reality that affects their normal functioning and relationships.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a type of anxiety disorder in which individuals find relief only in the performance of series of rituals or specific actions.

More than preferring neatness or being tidy, those experiencing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder address intrusive and recurring thoughts (obsessions) through their specific actions and rituals (compulsions).

These obsessions and compulsions can become paralyzing, affecting daily life and function. Common examples of OCD can include an obsession with germs and the compulsion of washing one’s hands, the need to perform certain tasks in a particular order, or the need to enter or exit a room in a particular way.

Covenant Counseling offers clients treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, offering a number of types of therapy, depending on the individual client and his or her needs.
