Philosophy of Covenant Counseling and Education Center

As a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church, our counseling philosophy is consistent with the mission and purpose of CPC; namely, to glorify and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. The nature of counseling is to be founded solidly upon God's revealed truth, His Word; and all approaches, procedures and methods are to derive from His Word.

We affirm that Our Heavenly Father, as the Creator of Life, that Jesus Christ, as the Redeemer and Sustainer of Life, and that the Holy Spirit, as the Comforter of Life, alone are able to bring wholeness, healing and growth to human life through the ministry of God's Word and Spirit.

We further recognize that fallen human nature frequently, through sin and through exigencies of life on earth, often faces questions, obstacles, problems, issues, or events that inhibit or debilitate against our full functioning, development and growth as those redeemed to conform to the image of our Lord.

We further affirm that counseling has as its purpose the reconciliation and restoration of human beings into the image of Christ; and that the goal of counseling is therefore to provide a means by which believers may become fully functioning and growing disciples of Christ, servants in His Church, and living testimonies to the world at large.

We also recognize that there is a plethora of counseling approaches and methodologies (secular and "Christian") that, in the realm of common grace, may offer some healing and help to individuals. However, we affirm that all approaches and methodologies must be consistent with the adequacy and sufficiency of the Scriptures:

The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture...(WCF 1:6)

Therefore, we affirm further that when human beings begin to fulfill the greatest commandment (Deut. 6:5; Mt. 22:37) and the second greatest commandment (Lev. 19:18; Mt. 22:39) through the redemptive purpose of God in Christ, they will experience full and healthy living.
